This renovated round log cabin sits under a steep hill by Lake Vanttausjärvi in Rovaniemi, with the water just a short walk away. It is a practical and welcoming base for a small group, with a living room and kitchen, one bedroom with a double bed, a loft with two beds and a sofa bed in the main living area.
Outside, the lakeside setting is the real draw. The cabin has a wood-heated sauna with a shower and dressing area, and next to it a hot tub built into the terrace. A summer kitchen with a barbecue and a table for six makes outdoor meals easy, while a separate covered cooking area by the lake gives you shelter when the weather turns. There is also a campfire site closer to the water.
The lake is shallow with an artificially sanded beach, a pier and a rowing boat with a 5 hp outboard motor. Fishing is a major part of the experience here, and the area is known for good catches in both summer and winter. In colder months, the cabin is best reached with a four-wheel drive vehicle because of the hill, and the nearby snowmobile trail network adds another way to get out into the landscape.
Rovaniemi is 55 km away, with shops and restaurants in Vanttauskoski about 10 km from the cabin. Ounasvaara ski resort and golf course are also within reach, and day trips to places such as Auttiköngäs, Korouoma and the Arctic Circle are all possible from here.
