This wilderness cabin in Olos sits about 50 metres from the Muonionjoki river, in a natural riverside setting between the Kelokurkkio and Jalonpola rapids. The cabin is a simple log build from 2010, with a combined living room-kitchen, one bedroom and a covered porch.
Outside, the separate sauna building is only 10 metres away and includes a wood-heated sauna stove, dressing room and porch. The sauna building is also electrified, and the dressing room has a convertible bed, electric heater and wood stove. Water comes from the standpipe on the sauna terrace, and the well water is safe to drink. There is no running water in the buildings, and the kitchen has a sink.
By the riverside, you also have a roomy barbecue hut with electric lighting, plus your own rowing boat. This is a cabin for guests who are comfortable with a more modest wilderness stay and outdoor routines, including making fire and managing the cabin themselves.
In winter, an ice road leads to Saivonkylä village in Sweden, where you find an illuminated ski track and the Victoria snowmobile route. Olos ski resort, Pallas and Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park are all within day-trip range, while services in Muonio are farther away. Fishing and hunting areas are nearby, and licences are needed where applicable.
